1a. Dinner with the dead

The question goes something like this, "If you could have dinner with one person who is no longer with us, who would it be and why?"

This question is oftentimes asked when we need to waste a bit of time, we're bored, or over-tired. But what if you were to take this question seriously? How much value could it provide to your outlook on life? Only you can answer that.

So, who would it be?

Jesus? Abe Lincoln? Hitler? Ghandi? Your grandfather or grandmother?

Use this as an opportunity to practice asking the right questions (not just any questions).

1b. 20 questions

Grab a pen and a piece of paper.

At the top of the page, write, "Dinner with the dead: 20 questions".

Take some time to write down 20 questions that you would ask the person you chose above. Truly think about them. Don't do the exercise just for the sake of doing it. That will only be a colossal waste of your time.

You've completed your list. Now, narrow your list down to the five questions you would want to ask most. Cross-out 15.

Not so easy, is it? It's not meant to be easy and that's okay.

We're now looking at an individualized list of 20 questions. 15 crossed out. Five remaining. Now...cross-out two more.

Frustrating, we know.

You should now have three questions left. Three of your most in-depth, well thought-out, burning questions that you would ask at a dinner with the person you chose.

In looking at the three questions that you have left, how would you answer them?

This part will not be easy. It will take time. It will be frustrating. But, it will be worth it.

Why are we having you do this? Because this exercise forces you to pull advice, wisdom, and information from your subconscious. In many cases, people don't realize they have this in them until they are forced to do something like this. Most people think they need other's permission, advice, and knowledge to find answers to their questions. In reality, you have many of the answers that you seek right now. In your own head. However, you have limiting beliefs of your actual breadth of knowledge. You feel like you have lost what hasn't been used when you have just subdued and filed that knowledge away. You just need to dig a little bit.

So, start digging.

2. Growth Mindset

At this point, your list of questions and answers are complete. Now, we need to understand what it taught us. If we did it right, it taught us various different things. Or, at the very least, it made us more aware of how powerful our subconscious mind is, how much thinking is involved in asking the right questions, how powerful it can be to visualize a situation like this, and more. But, the main thing we want to emphasize is this:

This exercise clearly portrayed your ability to tap into your growth mindset.

Growth mindset requires hard work and dedication to learn and expand one's abilities - mentally, physically, and emotionally. You've done just that. You tapped into a place in your mind that has been waiting for you to challenge it. Activate it. Maybe it was frustrating, painful, or annoying but you stuck with it and persevered.

This process does not only apply to expanding and improving your growth mindset. It applies to growth as a whole. It takes time, attention, and resilience to actively pursue growth. You will be frustrated, fatigued, and you will fail. But, what defines you and your character is how you get back up. How you persevere. How you bounce back. Those able to do so are unbeatable. They don't quit. It's not in their nature. So, what's stopping you?

Remember: Born to Define Greatness. Built to Inspire.

Keep getting after it!
